Fairfield and Marist Advance to MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Match

Edison, NJ -Defending champions Fairfield advanced to the 2010 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship match with a victory over Niagara, while second-seeded Marist outlasted Loyola.

Fairfield won the doubles point and then picked up victories Kristin Liu (third singles), Meghan Sullivan (fourth singles), and Alyssa Ruiz (fifth singles) to win 4-0.

Marist defeated Loyola, 4-3, to set up a rematch of last year's championship match. The match was tied 3-3 with the fifth singles matchup of Marist's Jeannie Lukin and Loyola's Judy Lite heading to a third set. Lukin prevailed 6-3 to send Marist to the championship match. Erin McCarthy and Joana Sun were also singles winners for the Red Foxes.

The championship match is scheduled for noon at the National Tennis Center. However, in the event of inclement weather, the championship would be moved to the Yanitelli Center on the campus of Saint Peter's College. Please check MAACSports.com for more information.
