Fairfield Claims Second Consecutive MAAC Women's Tennis Championship

Jersey City, NJ - Fairfield defeated Marist 4-1 to win its second consecutive league title at the 2010 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship. The match was held at the Yanitelli Center at Saint Peter's College due to inclement weather.

Fairfield earned the doubles point with wins from Paulina Rys and Kristen Liu at first doubles (8-6), and Michaela Cerrone and Meghan Sullivan at third doubles (8-5).

The Stags increased their lead to 3-0 with wins by Meghan Sullivan at fourth singles (6-2, 6-0) and Alyssa Ruiz at fifth singles (6-0, 6-0). Marist fought back, earning a point at second singles (Erin McCarthy - 6-3, 6-4), and winning second sets at both first and third singles. However, Fairfield's #1 Dana Postupack prevailed 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 to clinch the title.

Postupack was named the 2010 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Player.

Fairfield will receive an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
