Fairfield Earns 20-4 Victory Over Siena in 2010 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Top-seeded Fairfield University defeated fourth-seeded Siena College with a 20-4 victory in the first semifinal game of the 2010 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship at Tenney Stadium on Leonidoff Field on the campus of Marist College.

The Stags (13-4, 6-0 MAAC) got on the board first as senior attack Erin Rigby netted a shot just 52 seconds into the first half. Junior attack Katie MacKay then netted her first shot of the day just under five minutes into the contest to give Fairfield a 2-0 lead. The Red and White added another goal about two minutes later as senior attack Kate Reardon recorded her 21st goal of the season to make it a 3-0 game. Rigby then netted her second shot of the day with 19:29 left in the first half to give Fairfield a 4-0 lead. The Stags took a 5-0 lead as sophomore midfielder Cassie Penta sent in a shot to the back of the net.

The Saints (7-9, 3-3 MAAC) got their first mark on the scoreboard as Michelle Andreo capitalized on a free position shot at the 15:12 mark. Siena's junior attack Caitlin Mikel made it a three-point contest at the 13:22 mark with her 45th goal of the season. Fairfield came back swinging, with back-to-back goals by junior midfielder Kristen Coleman and Rigby, with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the half. Fairfield then got a pair of goals from both junior midfielder Brittany Bare and graduate attack Caitlin Young to go ahead, 11-2. Rigby then scored her fourth goal of the day with 1:33 remaining in the first half to give the Stags a 12-2 lead going into halftime.

Just two minutes into the second half, Bare and MacKay registered one goal apiece to put Fairfield ahead 14-2. Siena's Mikel added one more goal at the 18:28 mark to give the Saints their third goal of the day. Fairfield's Coleman netted her second goal of the day with less than 14 minutes left in the game to make it 15-3 in favor of the Stags. 2010 MAAC Rookie of the Year Chloe Mangan scored her first goal of the day with 11 minutes remaining. Just over a minute later, Siena's Allie Kain netted the Saints' final goal of the day. The Stags got for more goals to close out the game from MacKay, Penta, Caitlin Townsend and Alex Clark.

Katie Keenan registered eight stops for Fairfield, while Kelly Brady posted one save for the Stags in her five minutes of work. Kristin Concordia made seven saves for Siena.

Fairfield will play the winner of today's second semifinal game between #2 Canisius College and #3 Marist in the championship game on Sunday, May 2, at 1:00 p.m.
