Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Third-seeded Marist College took an 8-7 win over second-seeded Canisius College in the second semifinal game of the 2010 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship at Marist's Tenney Stadium on Leonidoff Field.

The Red Foxes wasted no time getting their offensive effort started as sophomore midfielder Jori Procaccini netted her 28th goal of the season, aided by senior midfielder Lindsay Rinefierd, just 28 seconds into the game. Less than a minute later, Rinefierd recorded her 24th goal of the year to give Marist a 2-0 lead. The Griffs made their first mark on the scoreboard at the 12 minute mark of the first half as junior attack Ashley Curtis registered her 44th goal of the season to make it a one-goal game.

Canisius tied it up at 2-2 in the 10-minute mark of the first stanza with sophomore midfielder Megan Oosting converting a pass from junior midfielder Jackie Loson, and then pulled ahead, 3-2, a minute later as Curtis netted her second goal of the night, assisted by junior attack Taylor Gray. At the 7:26 mark, Oosting gave the Griffs a 4-2 lead as she converted a pass from Loson. Senior midfielder Marissa Brown scored her ninth goal of the year with 1:35 left in the first half to put the Griffs up, 5-2.

With the sun setting on the Hudson Valley at the start of the second half, Marist's Procaccini scored her second goal of the night with 28:46 left in the contest to make it 5-3. Oosting responded by completing her hat trick, finding the back of the net at the 26:02 mark, as the Griffs enjoyed a three-goal lead once again (6-3). Canisius went up by four as Gray scored goal number 16 of the season with just over 21 minutes left in the contest. Marist would not be outdone, however, as the Red Foxes garnered three straight goals, one from senior midfielder Erin Wilson and two from sophomore attack Ariel Kramer, to make it a one-point game (7-6).

The slate was evened at 7-7 as Rinefierd scored her second goal of the night with 13:25 left in the second half. The game remained locked at that score until Marist's Shannon Haas found the back of the net with 17 seconds left in the game to earn the win.

Ashley Casiano made eight stops in the net for Marist, while Allison Daley, the 2010 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, recorded 15 saves for Canisius.

Marist will play top-seeded Fairfield University in the championship game on Sunday, May 2, at 1:00 p.m. The winner of the championship game will earn the league's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship.
