Canisius Earns Spot in Title Game of the 2010 MAAC Softball Championship

Buffalo, N.Y. Top-seeded Canisius College (34-18) earned a spot in the 2010 MAAC Softball Championship title game after defeating third-seeded Niagara University (22-22), 4-0, in Game 5 of the tournament at Canisius' Demske Sports Complex.
Canisius scored all four runs in the bottom of the third inning off of back-to-back doubles from Katie Lancelotti and Emily Helbig.
The Griffs' Amanda Baun improved to 18-10 with the win, giving up just one hit in seven innings of work while fanning nine batters. Niagara's Julie DiMatteo closed out the year at 15-7 on the mound.
Canisius, who has advanced to its 17th MAAC Championship title game, will play second-seeded Iona College, who reached the championship round for the first time since 2005, in Game 6 on Saturday, May 15, at noon. If the Griffs win Game 6, the seventh and deciding game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
