Rider Wins 2010 MAAC Baseball Championship

Fishkill, NY - Behind eight strong innings from sophomore Patrick Devlin, the Rider Broncs defeated Canisius, 4-2, to claim its second MAAC Championship in three years at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y.

Devlin, who was named to the All-Tournament team, went eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out seven. Closer Tyler Smith pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one, to pick up his ninth save of the season.

Rider took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice by catcher Eric Woodrow. The Broncs held that lead until the seventh when they added three runs without getting a hit. After three walks, Adam Wayman brought in a run when he was hit by a pitch. Woodrow and Steve Galella followed with walks to cap the Rider scoring.

Canisius got two runs back in the seventh on a two-run single by left fielder Will Chamicki, but Devlin and Smith combined to shut out the Griffs over the final two innings to clinch the title.

Rider's Albee was named the MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player. In three games, he went 5-for-12 with four RBI and six runs scored. Click here to see the complete All-Tournament team.
