MAAC Announces 2010 Men's Lacrosse Awards

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Mount St. Mary's Cody Lehrer and Siena's Ryan Duggan have been selected MAAC Lacrosse League co-Offensive Players of the Year, while Siena's Brent Herbst earned Defensive Player of the Year honors to headline the 2010 MAAC Lacrosse All-Conference Teams, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Additionally, Marist's Connor Rice was named the Rookie of the Year, while Mount St. Mary's head coach Tom Gravante was chosen as the Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year.
Lehrer, a 6-0 sophomore from Baltimore, Md., leads the MAAC in points (3.86) and goals per game (3.29). His goals per game mark is currently third best in the nation. Lehrer scored a career-high seven goals in the Mountaineers victory over nationally ranked Lafayette. He was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2010.
Duggan, a 6-1 senior from East Setauket, N.Y., helped lead Siena to a perfect 8-0 record in the conference as he averaged 3.20 points per game (sixth in MAAC) and 1.60 assists per game (second). He is tied for first in the league with three game-winning goals. Duggan was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 26.
Herbst, a 6-0 senior goalie from Plainview, N.Y., leads the MAAC and is ranked in the top-10 in the nation in goals against average (8.07) and save percentage (.593). He averaged 11.47 saves per game, third best in the league. Herbst was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week five times this season.
Rice, a freshman from Penfield, N.Y., is ranked in the top-five in points per game (3.29) and goals per game (2.29). He had two game-winning goals this season and also averaged one assist per game. Rice was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week once and Rookie of the Week twice this year.
Gravante, currently in his 15th season at Mount St. Mary's, led the Mountaineers to a 7-1 conference record and an overall mark of 10-4. Mount St. Mary's posted its first two wins over ranked opponents in program history, defeating then-#19 Robert Morris, 19-13, and then-#10 Lafayette, 14-12. The win over Lafayette was Gravante's 100th career victory.
First Team All-MAAC selections include Canisius' Adam Jones, Manhattan's Steven Sternberg and James Synowiez, Marist's Corey Zindel, Mount St. Mary's Lehrer, Matt Nealis, and Bryant Schmidt, Siena's Herbst, Bryan Neufeld and Duncan Seale, and VMI's Tim Moran.
