Marist to Face Boston College in NCAA Women's Soccer First Round

Edison, N.J. - Marist College, the winner of the 2011 Chick-fil-A MAAC Women's Soccer Championship, will take on Boston College in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 13 at the Newton Soccer Field.
The Red Foxes (13-5-2, 7-1-1 MAAC) earned their first league title in women's soccer with a 1-0 victory over Loyola University Maryland on Nov. 6. Amanda Epstein, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, was also named Most Valuable Player of the championship after converting a pass from Marjana Maksuti and Jamie Strumwasser to record the game winner in the 43rd minute. Epstein also netted the lone goal for Marist in the 1-1 tie with Fairfield in the semifinals and recorded one of the three PKs that advanced the Red Foxes to the championship match. She leads the Red Foxes, the MAAC regular season champs, with 11 goals and six assists for 28 points, ranking her fourth in the league in points and first among freshmen. Junior Caitlin Landsman, a member of the MAAC All-Tournament Team, had played 15 games in goal this season, posting a 0.73 GAA and a .750 save percentage. She has five shutouts and 27 saves to her credit.
The Eagles (11-5-2, 6-4 ACC), seeded fourth in the Stanford Regional, lost in the ACC quarterfinals, 3-2, to Wake Forest University on Oct. 30. BC is currently ranked 20th by the NSCAA and TopDrawerSoccer.com. Junior Kristen Mewis leads her squad with seven goals and six assists for 20 points this season. Senior netminder Jillian Mastroianni has started all 18 games for Boston College, owning a 0.64 GAA and an .836 save percentage. She has recorded 10 shutouts and 61 saves.
Tickets for the game can be purchased at the gate on Sunday, November 13 at the Newton Soccer Field. Admission will be $7 for general admission and $3 for students and children.
