MAAC Announces 2010-2011 MAAC Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team

EDISON, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2010-2011 All-MAAC Men's Basketball Rookie Team, selected by the MAAC's head coaches.
The team is made up of Maurice Barrow of Fairfield University, Justin Drummond of Loyola University Maryland, Michael Alvarado of Manhattan College, Marvin Jordan of Niagara University and Danny Stewart of Rider University. One of these five players will be named the 2010-2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The winner will be announced on Thursday, March 3 at a 5:00 p.m. awards reception at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard, the site of the 2011 Spark Energy MAAC Basketball Championships.
Barrow, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound freshman guard from St. Albans, N.Y., averaged 6.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Stags this season. He posted double figures in seven contests and recorded three double-doubles. Barrow earned two MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season.
Drummond, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound freshman guard from Upper Marlboro, Md., contributed 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in his first season with the Greyhounds. He posted eight double-digit performances and one double-double during the regular season. Drummond claimed four MAAC Rookie of the Week honors this season.
Alvarado, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound freshman guard from the Bronx, N.Y., averaged 11.2 points per game, good for 16th place on the MAAC scoring chart. He also contributed 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game over 25 games played for the Jaspers. Alvarado is fifth in the league in free throw percentage, connecting on 77.9 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe. Additionally, he registered 11 double-digit scoring efforts and earned one MAAC Rookie of the Week honor.
Jordan, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound freshman guard from Peoria, Ill., led all active freshman in scoring during the regular season with 11.9 points per game (13th overall in scoring). He also contributed 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals an outing for the Purple Eagles. Jordan recorded 21 double-digit scoring performances during his freshman campaign and was named MAAC Rookie of the Week twice for his efforts.
Stewart, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound freshman forward from Philadelphia, Pa., led all freshman in rebounding with 7.3 boards an outing (fifth overall in the MAAC) and field goal percentage with 58.1 percent. He also averaged 7.7 points and 1.1 blocks per game for the Broncs. Stewart claimed the MAAC Rookie of the Week award twice this season.
