Iona Tops Buffalo, 78-63, in CIT Quarterfinals

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Jermel Jenkins had seven of Iona's 11 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 23 points in the Gaels' 78-63 win over Buffalo in the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament on Tuesday night.
Jenkins, who was second on the team behind the injured Kyle Smyth with 68 three pointers coming in, was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in the first half as Iona took a 41-36 lead into the break. He was 4 of 6 from long range over the final 20 minutes to help the Gaels (24-11) win for the 11th time in 12 games.
Sean Armand sank three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Rashon Dwight chipped in with 10.
Freshman Javon McCrea led Buffalo (20-14) with a career-high 29 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Filsen, the Bulls' leading scorer averaging 15.4 points, finished with only five.
Iona will next face East Tennessee State in a semifinal matchup on Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Johnson City, Tenn.
