Niagara, Loyola Chosen By Draw as Final Two Seeds in Men's Tennis Championship

Edison, NJ - Niagara and Loyola were chosen by random draw as the third and fourth teams in the 2011 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship. Niagara will be the third seed by virtue of its 4-3 victory over Loyola on March 27. Marist and Fairfield are the top two seeds in the championship set for April 20-21 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Loyola, Niagara, and Saint Peter's all finished conference play with 3-3 records. Per MAAC By-Law, the first tie breaker is to form a mini-league among the three tied teams and compare the records from the mini-league.  After doing this, each team has a record of 1-1 within the mini-league: Loyola defeated Saint Peter's and lost to Niagara; Niagara defeated Loyola and lost to Saint Peter's; Saint Peter's defeated Niagara and lost to Loyola.

The next step in the tiebreaker is to compare the record of the tied teams against the team that finished first in the standings. If the teams are still tied, move to the team that finished second in the standings and so on through the entire standings until one of the tied teams gains an advantage.  In this case, each of the tied teams lost to the first and second placed teams (Marist and Fairfield), and each of the tied teams defeated the sixth and seventh placed teams (Siena and Rider).

The third step in the tiebreaker is that the Commissioner (or his designee) will break the tie via coin toss, or in the case of three tied teams, random draw.
