MAAC Announces 2011 Water Polo All-MAAC Awards

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Iona College's Maggie Wood has been named the 2011 MAAC Water Polo Offensive Player of the Year, while Wagner College's Chelsea Beck earned Defensive Player of the Year honors to headline the 2011 Water Polo All-MAAC Teams, as voted by the league's head coaches.

Additionally, Iona freshman Amy Olsen earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Brian Kelly, head coach of the Gaels, was selected as the 2011 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.

Wood, a senior utility player from Evergreen Park, Ill., led the MAAC with 101 goals scored and an average of 3.37 goals per game.  She was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week four times this season.

Beck, a junior center back from Reading, Pa., helped lead the Seahawks to an overall record of 16-14 and a 5-5 mark in the MAAC en route to earning the third seed in this year's championship.

Olsen, a freshman from Baytown, Texas, ranked seventh in the conference with 63 goals in 29 games for the Gaels during her rookie campaign.  She earned seven Rookie of the Week awards this year.

Kelly, in his 16th season at the helm of the Gaels program, has led his squad to an overall record of 23-7, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the top seed in the 2011 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship. 

Earning First Team All-MAAC selections are Iona's Wood, Cecilia Leonard and Kathleen Link, Wagner's Beck and Lauren French, Marist College's Agnes Konopka and Siena College's Camille Norman.
