Wagner Earns 11-10 OT Win Over Marist in 2011 MAAC Water Polo Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Junior Lauren French scored the game-winning shot in sudden victory as third-seed Wagner College earned an 11-10 overtime win over second-seeded Marist College in the second semifinal of the 2011 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship, held at Marist's McCann Natatorium.

French finished the day with four goals to her credit, while junior Chelsea Beck posted three.  Senior Natalie Pyrz added two goals, and both seniors Carina Giles and Laura vanderBent tallied one goal apiece.

Junior Desiree Desaulniers recorded five goals for the Red Foxes.  Seniors Agnes Konopka and Rosie Pauli each had two goals, and junior Jaclyn Puccino netted one goal.

Wagner will play top-seeded Iona College (24-7) for the championship title at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.  Marist will face fourth-seeded St. Francis (NY) College in the consolation game tomorrow at noon.

The winner of the MAAC Water Polo League Championship will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Water Polo Championship Play-In game.  The MAAC champion will host the SCIAC champion.  The play-in game will take place on Saturday, May 7 at the Greenwich YMCA in Greenwich, Conn.
