Iona Defeats St. Francis, 12-8, in 2011 MAAC Water Polo Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Top-seeded Iona College defeated fourth-seeded St. Francis (NY) College, 12-8, in the first semifinal of the 2011 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship, held at Marist College's McCann Natatorium.

Junior Cecilia Leonard scored five goals for the Gaels, while senior Maggie Wood netted three goals.  Rookie of the Year Amy Olsen and junior Mackenzie Mone registered two goals apiece for the Maroon and Gold.

Senior Thalita Paladino paced the Terriers with three goals this afternoon, while sophomore Paige Hardy contributed two.

Iona will play the winner of the semifinal game between #2 Marist and #3 Wagner College for the championship title at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.  St. Francis (NY) will face the loser of the second semifinal in the consolation game tomorrow at noon.
