Fairfield Claims 2-1 Win over Iona

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Top-seeded Fairfield University claimed a 2-1 win over fourth-seeded Iona College in game two of the 2011 MAAC Softball Championship at Marist College's Softball Park at Gartland Field.
Senior designated player Alyssa Maiese led off the second inning with a home run over the center field fence to give Iona a 1-0 lead.
Fairfield recorded two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Kristen Filicia scored on a groundout by senior first baseman Kristina Lingo, followed by an RBI bunt by junior third baseman Alli Wigand to bring in freshman catcher Lauren Liseth.
Fairfield's Sarah Minice claimed the win (17-8), striking out six and giving up three hits in 7.0 innings of work. Sarah Jackson dropped her record to 13-8 on the mound for Gaels.
Fairfield will play third-seed Marist College in Game 3, which is slated for Friday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. Game four between Iona and second-seeded Manhattan College is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.
