Jamieson, Paolini Headline 2011 Baseball All-MAAC Teams

N.J. - Canisius College senior shortstop Sean
Jamieson and Siena College junior second baseman Dan Paolini have been named
the 2011 MAAC Baseball Co-Players of the Year and headline the 2011 All-MAAC
Teams, as voted on by the league's head coaches.
Jamieson owns a .358 batting average in his
final season playing for the Golden Griffins.
He has registered a conference-best 59 runs scored this year and has
tallied 67 hits - including 13 doubles and 13 home runs - as well as 49 runs
batted in. He is second in the MAAC in
slugging percentage (.658) and on-base percentage (.474)
Paolini has posted a .352 batting average (69-196)
during his third season wearing the Green and Gold. He has also registered league-bests in slugging
percentage (.663), runs batted in (63) and home runs (17). Paolini also recorded 44 runs scored, 10
doubles and 13 stolen bases for the Saints this year.
Manhattan College sophomore right-handed
pitcher John Soldinger has been selected as the 2011 MAAC Pitcher of the
Year. Soldinger has a 9-2 record on the
mound for the Jaspers and a 2.37 ERA. He
has fanned 59 batters in 95.0 innings of work during the regular season, and
has held opponents to a .221 batting average.
Tyler Smith of Rider University earned the
2011 MAAC Relief Pitcher of the Year award.
Smith has recorded a league-high 15 saves for the Broncs this
season. He closed out the regular season
with a 3-3 record and a 2.50 ERA. The sophomore
left-handed hurler struck out 39 batters over 36.0 innings.
Rider's Nick Crescenzo was chosen as the 2011
MAAC Rookie of the Year. Crescenzo led
all rookies in the league in hitting .345 (51-148) in his first season for the Broncs. He posted a .378 slugging percentage and a .387
on-base percentage during his rookie campaign.
Crescenzo also recorded 24 runs scored and 31 RBI.
The All-MAAC First Team includes Bryce
Nugent from Marist as catcher and Brian Burton from Canisius at first
base. Paolini is at second base, while
Jamieson is at shortstop. Iona College's
Chris Burke is at third base. The
outfield is made up of Manhattan's Mike McCann and Mark Onorati as well as Rider's
Brandon Cotten. Iona's James Beck and
Marist College's Eric Helmrich share the designated hitter duties, while Marist's
Ricky Pacione is the utility player. Soldinger
and Rider's Mike Thomas round out the All-MAAC First Team as the pitchers.
The All-MAAC Second Team includes Ramon
Ortega from Manhattan at catcher and Iona's Michael Chiaravalloti at first
base. Fairfield's Tucker Nathans took
second base honors, while Manhattan's Nick Camastro earned a spot at
shortstop. Manhattan's Chad Salem is
serving as the third baseman. In the
outfield are Crescenzo, Mike Gallic from Marist and Preston Aldridge from Saint
Peter's College. Rider's Steve Galella is
the designated hitter, and Brian Deering from Niagara University is the utility
player. Iona's Justin Wiley, Manhattan's
Eric Luksis and Marist's Chad Gallagher were selected for the second team
pitching corps.
Manhattan College head coach Kevin
Leighton has been named the 2011 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. In his sixth season at the helm of the Japers'
baseball program, Leighton has led his squad to an overall record of 31-17 and
a 20-2 mark in the MAAC, en route to winning the regular season title and the
top seed in the 2011 MAAC Baseball Championship. This is the second time that Leighton has
received this honor, previously winning the award in 2009.
