Buffalo, N.Y. - Third-seeded University of Detroit Mercy earned a 9-8 victory over second-seeded Marist College in the second semifinal game of the 2011 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College.

Junior midfielder Tim Lehto began the scoring offense for the Titans, scoring his 11th goal of the season at 1:46 of the first quarter.  Freshman midfielder Troy Dennis then netted his eighth goal of the year just over one minute later to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.  The Red Foxes got on the board at 8:09 as sophomore attack Connor Rice found the back of the net following a pass by senior attack Corey Zindel.  Detroit's freshman attack Alex Maini then beat out his defender and notched his 19th goal of the season at 11:07 to put his squad up by two (3-1).  Sophomore Jordan Houtby then netted his first goal of the night 50 seconds later to give the Titans a 4-1 lead.

Less than five minutes into the second quarter, MAAC Rookie of the Year Shayne Adams made a diving shot into the goal to give Detroit a 5-1 lead.  Redshirt freshman attack Wes Steen then put Detroit ahead, 6-1, as he netted shot from junior attack Scott Harris at 7:23 of the second stanza.  Marist responded as sophomore midfielder Aedan Herman scored his eighth goal of the season, aided by grad student midfielder Bob von Hoffman, at 8:38 for the Red Foxes' second goal of the night (6-2).  Rice made it a three-goal game for Marist as he put back a shot with less that two and a half minutes remaining in the half.  But Detroit had a quick answer as freshman attack Tom Masterson sent in a shot from Maini at 12:42 in the second quarter.  With 57 seconds left in the stanza, Rice completed his hat trick, netting a pass from Zindel once again to make it 7-4 in favor of the Titans going into halftime.

Marist was the first to score in the second half as von Hoffman found the back of the net during a man-up advantage with just over one minute off the game clock into the third quarter (7-5).  Rice then netted a shot for the Red Foxes at 3:58 to make it a 7-6 game.  Ten seconds later, Detroit's Harris snuck in a shot to put the Titans up by two once again (8-6).  But the Red Foxes capitalized once again on a man-up advantage as sophomore midfielder Jim Marks scored his first goal of the night at 5:19 in the third to make it an 8-7 game.  Zindel then tied it up for the Red Foxes, scoring his 24th goal of the season at 13:00 of the third quarter.

Houtby recorded the lone goal of the fourth quarter, netting the game-winning shot just outside the crease at 13 seconds to give his squad the 9-8 victory.

A.J. Levell made 13 saves in goal for Detroit.  Brendan Price registered six saves between the pipes for Marist.

Detroit will attempt to win its first league title when the Titans face top-seeded Siena College in the championship game on Sunday, May 8, at noon.  The winner of the championship game will earn the league's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.
