Rider Men, Saint Peter's Women Lead After First Day of MAAC Championships

Lawrenceville, NJ -The Rider men and Saint Peter's women lead after the first day of the 2011 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the Rider University campus in Lawrenceville, N.J.
Rider, aiming for its first MAAC title on the men's side, leads the way with 78 points. Manhattan is second with 57 points, followed by Iona (22), Marist (18) and Saint Peter's (10).
Saint Peter's, winners of the 2011 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, is in first place with 62 points. Manhattan sits in second with 52 points and Iona is third with 49. Rider has 27 points followed by Loyola (23) and Marist (18).
Iona's 4x800-meter relay of Leonie Smith, Chelsea Borbolla, Kristen Peluso, and Heidi Gregson set a new championship record with a time of 9:09.63, breaking their own mark from last year by almost 10 seconds. Iona's Natalie Finnerty crossed the line in 10:36.49 to shatter the record of 11:05.49 in the women's 3000-meter steeplchase. Manhattan's Malin Olsson set a new standard in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.92-meters.
Competition will resume on Sunday beginning with the men's high jump and shot put and the women's triple jump at 11 a.m. The women's 4x100-meter relay will kick off the track events at noon.
