Semi-Annual MAAC SAAC Disney Trip Set for October 25
MAAC Sports
Edison, NJ -
Twenty MAAC student-athletes will meet in Orlando, Florida October 25 - 28 for
the league's semi-annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting.
The four-day event will give the student-athletes an
opportunity to meet other student-athletes from around the league and share
ideas to improve SAAC and the overall student-athlete experience at their
institutions. The weekend will be
filmed by Marist College student Zach Obid to provide a "behind the scenes"
look at the MAAC SAAC.
Late Thursday evening, the student-athletes will arrive at
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, where they will all have the chance to get
acquainted with one another. On
Friday, they will volunteer with Give Kids the World, participate in a Town
Hall Forum filmed for ESPN3 and attend Disney Institute on Leadership in Epcot.
The Town Hall Forum is designed to enhance the
student-athlete voice, promote the activities institutional SAAC's are involved
with and increase SAAC awareness. Also
in attendance will be Canisius College Associate Dean and Director of Sport
Administration Dr. Shawn O'Rourke, who will encourage the discussion, and MAAC Commissioner
Rich Ensor.
On Saturday, SAAC will attend and volunteer at the MAAC Men's
and Women's Cross Country Championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports. Besides volunteering at the meet,
student-athletes will experience a MAAC championship in a sport other than
their own and be able to cheer on their fellow classmates.
The SAAC meeting will commence that afternoon at the ESPN
Wide World of Sports Complex. They will also have the chance to meet with
Disney Interns to learn about their experiences working at Disney. All 10 MAAC institution's will be
represented at the meeting, with Saint Peter's University baseball
student-athlete Adam Purcilly serving as chair. Purcilly will facilitate the
SAAC meeting and give an update from the Division I National SAAC. Later that evening, SAAC will attend the
MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country awards show and banquet in Disney's Animal
Kingdom.
The student-athletes will spend Sunday at the parks before
returning to their schools.
