O'Connor, Funk, Steinberger and Hiller Honored With Weekly Awards

NJ - Rider University's Kelly O'Connor was named the MAAC Women's
Swimmer of the Week, while Rider's Johnny Funk earned the award on the men's
side. Fairfield University's
Ashlee Steinberger was chosen as the Women's Diver of the Week, and Rider's
Trevor Hiller was selected as the Men's Diver of the Week.
Despite
going 0-2 this weekend, O'Connor took first in the 200-yard butterfly, coming in
at 2:08.10 and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.84) in
Rider's opening meet against University of Maryland Baltimore County and James
Madison University.
Funk earned two first-place
finishes this weekend against UMBC. He won the 100-yard backstroke (52.15) and the 200-yard
individual medley (1:57.91). He also led off the Broncs' second-place finish in
the 200-medley relay.
Steinberger is off to a solid start to this season. In the
dual meet loss to Boston College on Oct. 6, she was runner-up on the 1-meter diving
with a score of 220.35 and third on the 3-meter diving with a score of 207.45.
In the Stags' victory against Holy Cross one week later, Steinberger swept both
boards. She recorded a mark of 223.12 on the 1-meter board and a score of
221.10 on the 3-meter board.
As the men's diver of the week,
Hiller, an NCAA qualifier last season, swept the individual diving titles
against UMBC. Hiller won the 1-meter diving with a score of 286.50 and 3-meter diving
with a score of 272.95 diving.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will
be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
