Arciello, Tobias, Ruddy and Hiller Claim Weekly Awards

NJ - Marist College's Maddie Arciello was named the MAAC Women's Swimmer
of the Week, while Marist's Jason Ruddy earned the award on the men's
side. Marist's Kimberly Tobias was
chosen as the Women's Diver of the Week, and Rider's Trevor Hiller was selected
for the second week in a row as the Men's Diver of the Week.
In the Red
Foxes' win over Canisius College on Saturday, Arciello stood out amongst a
strong showing by the entire women's squad with three individual first-place
finishes and a fourth via relay. Arciello swept the shortest three freestyle
races: the 50 with a time of 24.72, the 100 with time of 54.15 and the 200 at
1:57.09. She was most dominant in the 100-yd event as she was victorious by
1.28 seconds. She concluded her
day with a first-place finish as part of the 400-yd freestyle relay team.
Swimming the leadoff leg, Arciello gave Marist a 1.41 second advantage that
would eventual lead to a 4.18 second overall victory.
Ruddy earned
two individual first-place finishes and a third in relay action in the Red
Foxes' season opener against Canisius. His first solo win came in the 100-yd
butterfly with a time of 52.37, while recording a 1:53.36 time in the 200-yd butterfly
race. He closed his race with a final split time of 28.62, nearly four seconds
clear of the next closest split. In relay action, Ruddy swam the third leg of
the 200-yd medley with a time of 23.64 in the "A" relay team's eventual 1:37.30
win.
Tobias
continued building off of her outstanding freshman campaign with a sweep of the
boards in against Canisius. The sophomore won the 1-meter board with a score of
239.62, over 30 points clear of second place. In the 3-meter event, she won
with a 242.17 total, nearly 20 points ahead of her nearest competitor.
As the men's
diver of the week, Hiller, an NCAA qualifier last season, swept the individual
diving titles against Seton Hall.
Hiller won both the 3-meter board with a score of 320.77 and the 1-meter board
with a score of 315.60. It was the first
time Rider beat Seton Hall since 2009-10.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will
be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
