Iona Defends MAAC Cross Country Titles

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - The Iona College men's and women's cross country teams claimed the 2012 MAAC Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Iona's Mitch Goose was the men's individual champion, while fellow Gael Marion Joly-Testault won the women's individual title.
The Iona men, currently ranked fourth in the nation, took seven of the first eight places to win the meet with 16 points. It is the program's 22nd consecutive MAAC Championship. Marist College finished second with 80 points, the eighth straight second-place finish for the Red Foxes. Rider University was third with 83 points.
The Iona women claimed their eighth straight conference title with 26 points. Marist placed second with 65 points, the second consecutive year the Red Foxes took the runner-up spot. Rider earned third place with 83 points.
Goose, a graduate student from Norwich, England, won the men's 8k race in 24:08.08. Goose's time is the fifth fastest time in MAAC history on the Disney course, and the top time since 2000. Teammates Matt Gillespie (24:21.12) and Daniel Clorley (24:26.01) finished second and third, respectively.
Joly-Testault, a senior from Gax, France, won the women's 6k race with a time of 21:07.98, the second fastest in MAAC history on the Disney course. Teammates Katie Niblock (21.22.97) and Kirsten Stewart (21:31.06) took second and third place, respectively.
