Morris, Bjornberg, Brown and Beers Honored With Weekly Awards

NJ - Loyola University Maryland's Brennan Morris was named the
MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Siena College's Kaela Bjornberg earned
the award on the women's side. Loyola's
Michael Brown was chosen as the Men's Diver of the Week, and Siena's Hailey
Beers was selected for the second week in a row as the Women's Diver of the
Week.
Morris swept his individual events this past weekend
against Johns Hopkins University and Marywood University to pick up six more
wins this year. Morris won the 400 IM in 4:02.66 and the 1650 freestyle in
15:57.28. He won his 14th straight
500 freestyle with a time of 4:38.29 - a streak that dates back to 2010, his
sophomore season. Morris anchored the 800 freestyle relay to a runner-up finish
in 7:08.87. He also was a member
of the 400 freestyle relay that earned a third-place finish in 3:17.50 and the
400 medley relay that finished third in 3:35.04.
In Siena's loss to the University of Vermont, Bjornberg won three individual events
and was the only swimmer to win more than two events on the afternoon. She showed her balanced attack
finishing first in both breaststroke events, winning the 100 with a time of
1:09.02 and clocking in with a time of 2:28.24 in the 200. The captain also had the top time in
the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 1:00.37. Bjornberg also helped the 400-medley relay team to a second
place showing in the opening event, as the team finished just three seconds shy
of first finishing in 4:05.96.
Brown swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events at
Loyola's Thomas Murphy Invitational on Friday night. Brown finished with a
score of 192.07 on the one-meter board.?
As the women's diver of the week, Beers, once again was the
top diver for the Saints in their meet against Vermont. Beers finished fourth in the one-meter
with a score of 162.45, which was the top score for Siena. She fared better on the three-meter
board finishing with a score of 209.05, good enough for second in the event,
only eight points shy of first place finisher Rebecca Schreiber, who was the
NJCAA Diver of the Year last season.
The 2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will
be held February 14-16 at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
