MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Sindre Ek Headlines 2012 All-MAAC Men's Soccer Team

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Siena College senior forward Sindre
Ek has been selected as the 2012 MAAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year
by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC First Team.
Ek
earned this award after finishing the regular season tied for first place on
the MAAC scoring chart with 12 goals and five assists for 29 points for the Saints.
Joining
Ek with First Team All-MAAC honors is Niagara University's Rene DeZorzi, the
2012 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.
DeZorzi, a senior, started all of the Purple Eagles' 16 games this
season and is third on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for
12 points.
Niagara's
Brett Petricek was chosen as the 2012 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Petricek, a senior, led the league
during the regular season with his 0.76 goals against average and .856 save
percentage. He has also recorded
77 saves this season for the Purple Eagles.
Larry
Ndjock from Loyola University Maryland was named the 2012 MAAC Rookie of the
Year. Ndjock, a forward for the Greyhounds
finished the year tied for first place with Ek on the MAAC scoring chart with 13
goals and three assists for 29 points.
Ek, DeZorzi and Ndjock all earned spots on the All-MAAC First Team. Loyola's Gerwyn Jones and Fairfield
University's Jonny Raj claimed spots at the back position. Midfielders include Franklin
Castellanos from Iona College, Connor Thompson from Loyola, Gavin Falconer from
Canisius College and James Beeston from Siena. Noah Sadaoui from Saint Peter's
University earned a slot at forward, while Fairfield's Michael O'Keeffe is the
goalkeeper.
Joining
Petricek on the All-MAAC Second Team are five backs: Robbie Krohmer from Iona,
Josh Faga from Marist College, Roberto Andersson from Niagara, and Falko
Friedrichs and Jannis Opalka from Siena. At midfield are Alvaro Torrecilla and
Ignacio Maganto from Iona and Kenny Cooper from Niagara. Forwards are
represented by Ansger Otto from Iona, Stephan Brossard from Marist, Stephen
Dooley from Loyola and Callum Willmott from Niagara.
On the All-Rookie team, the backs
include: George Newton from Fairfield, Simon Laugsand from Marist, Matt Needham
from Siena and Alex Decarolis from Canisius. Darren Cooper from Niagara, Dominic Marshall from Loyola and
Yannic Fallack from Rider University are the midfielders. Ndjock, Siena's Tom Allen and Cesar
Ceja are the forwards, while Siena's Damian Liesemann has the goalkeeper
duties.
Siena
head coach Gareth Elliott was named the 2012 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the
Year. In his fifth season at the
helm of the Saints, he has led the team to an overall record of 10-6, including
a 6-1 mark in the MAAC, and the second seed in the 2012 MAAC Men's
Soccer Championship. Heading to the MAAC Championship, Elliott owns a record of
42-39-9 at the Loudonville, N.Y., school.
