MAAC Announces 2011-12 Women's Basketball All-MAAC Teams

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2011-12 Women's
Basketball All-MAAC Teams, as selected by the league's head coaches.
The All-MAAC First Team is
made up of Fairfield University's Taryn Johnson, Loyola University
Maryland's
Miriam McKenzie and Katie Sheahin, Marist College's Corielle Yarde,
and Siena College's Lily Grenci. One of these five players will be
named the 2011-12
Pepsi Max MAAC Player of the Year, also selected by the league's head
coaches. The Player of the Year will be
announced at the Postseason Awards Show on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. at
the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The show will broadcast live on MAAC.TV.
Johnson, a 5-11 senior
forward from Brockton, Mass., led the MAAC in field goal percentage (54.4%) and
blocked shots (1.8 per game). She finished in the top-10 in scoring
(12.9 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg), and steals (2.0 spg). Johnnson was chosen as the
league's Player of the Week twice.
McKenzie, a 5-10 senior guard
from Columbia, Md., finished fifth in scoring in the league, averaging 14.5 points per game.
She also pulled down 8.4 rebounds per game, second best in the conference, and
connected on 72.0% of her free throw attempts (tenth). McKenzie earned two MAAC
Player of the Week awards.
Sheahin, a 5-10 junior guard from
Brookville, Md., averaged 3.4 steals per game, first in the conference
and ninth in the NCAA. She scored an average of 14.9 points per game,
good for third in the league, blocked 1.2 shots per contest (fourth),
dished out 3.1 assists per game (seventh), and grabbed 5.9 rebounds per
game (eleventh). Sheahin was named MAAC Player of the Week on Dec. 19.
Yarde, a 5-8 senior guard
from Reading, Pa., averaged 14.0 points per game and was third in the league
with 4.1 assists per game. She grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game, ninth
in the league, and had a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio (second). Yarde was selected as the MAAC
Player of the Week three times and was also named the Preseason Player of the Year in October.
Grenci, a 6-1 junior forward from
Mars, Pa., finished second in the league in scoring, averaging 15.4
points per game. She pulled down 7.7 rebounds per game, fourth in
the conference, shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line (sixth), and made
44.3 percent of her field goals (tenth). Grenci was named MAAC Player of
the Week on Nov. 28.
This season's All-MAAC Second
Team is made up of Fairfield's Desiree Pina, Iona College's Damika Martinez, Manhattan College's Lindsey Loutsenhizer, Marist's Brandy Gang, Niagara University's Kayla Stroman.
The All-MAAC Third Team
consists of Canisius College's Jamie Ruttle, Manhattan's Schyanne Halfkenny, Marist's Leanne Ockenden, Rider University's MyNeshia McKenzie, and Siena's Cristina Centeno.
