Detroit Chosen as Favorites in MAAC Men's Lacrosse

Edison, NJ - The University of Detroit Mercy Titans were selected as the top team in MAAC Men's Lacrosse in 2012, according to the league's seven head coaches.

Detroit had an overall record of 6-10 and 4-2 in the MAAC in 2011. Detroit will return 2011 All-MAAC First Team attack selection Shayne Adams, as well as All-MAAC Second Team midfield Jordan Houtby and defense Jamie Hebden. Adams received Rookie of the Year honors and Houtby was named Long Stick Midfielder of the Year in 2011.

Siena's Bryan Neufeld was chosen as the 2012 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Neufeld, a native of Virgil, Ontario, was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 and Rookie of the Year in 2010. Last season, he averaged 3.61 point per game and 2.22 goals per game.

Siena College finished second in the poll with 42 points. Marist was third with 34 points. Canisius and Jacksonville tied for fourth with 27 points each, followed by Manhattan College (13), and VMI (10).

The preseason All-MAAC team consists of Canisius' Simon Giormetakis, Detroit's Adams, Marist's Connor Rice and Siena's Neufeld at attack. The midfielders are Jacksonville's Cameron Mann, Marist's Jim Marks and Siena's Chris Roth. Detroit's Hebden, Jacksonville's Jake Ziegler and Marist's Ethan Fox were selected as the defensemen. Siena's Tom Morr was chosen as the goalie.
