MAAC Player of the Week
Eileen McCann, Iona, Jr., OF, 5-10, Chino, Calif./Chino
McCann hit .733 (11-15) with an .800 slugging percentage and on base percentage of .750 over six games for the Gaels during their Spring Break trip to Florida. Against UCF, she went 1-2 with an RBI. McCann then went 1-1 as a pinch hitter against Colgate before going 2-3 against Dartmouth later on in the day. Against Providence in an 8-1 Iona win, McCann went 4-4, including a double with three runs batted in as well as a stolen base. In a second meeting of the weekend with Dartmouth, she went 2-3 before wrapping up the road trip with a 1-2 effort against North Florida.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Sarah Jackson, Iona, Sr., RHP, 5-8, Citrus Heights, Calif./Del Campo
Jackson went 2-2 in four starts for the Gaels, posting an earned run average of 2.15. Against UCF, she went six innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out six. Against Dartmouth, Jackson dominated the Big Green hitters, allowing just four hits while striking out 15. In that contest, she became Iona's all-time leader in strikeouts, eclipsing the previous mark of 610. Against Providence, Jackson went seven innings and allowed seven hits and one run while striking out seven. She finished the trip with six innings against North Florida, allowing three runs, three walks and four hits while striking out four in a 3-0 Gaels' loss.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Melanie White, Marist, Fr., P, 6-0, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon
White had two strong complete game performances versus nationally-ranked opposition at the Chevron Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament this past week. After a seven-inning effort versus the #22 Texas A&M Aggies, she turned in the game of a lifetime versus #1/#2 California on Friday. Against a lineup that included two USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year nominees, White spun a five-hitter and allowed just one run while striking out four in six innings. For the week, she pitched 13.0 innings with eight strikeouts while posting a 3.23 ERA.
