Blair, Grenci Named to Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team

Edision, N.J. - Manhattan College junior guard Maggie Blair and Siena College junior forward Lily Grenci were named to the 2012 Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete team on April 3rd in Cleveland, Ohio. There were a total of 22 athletes (11 men, 11 women) to receive the honor.
Blair appeared in
all 34 contests during the 2011-12 campaign, as Manhattan advanced to the
semifinals of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) for the second straight
season. A team captain, she averaged 1.7 points and 0.9 rebounds per game
while also ranking third on the squad with 1.9 assists per contest. Blair
handed out a career-high eight assists in a win over East Tennessee State on
Nov. 19.
A double-major in
finance and management, Blair was one of two honorees to boast a perfect 4.00
GPA, joining UMBC's Michelle Kurowski. She has the highest GPA in the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and is a two-time MAAC All-Academic
Team selection. Blair is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor
society, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She was
selected to represent the MAAC at the NCAA's annual SAAC convention this
summer. In addition, Blair is one of 10 student-athletes featured in the
"A Day In the Life" video presentation as a part of the MAAC exhibit
at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
A native of Mars, Pa., Grenci had
a phenomenal year both on and off the court for the Saints. She finished second
in the MAAC in scoring (15.2) and third in rebounding (7.8) in addition to
shooting 76.3% from the free throw line which ranked sixth. She was the only
player in the conference to score in double figures in all 18 regular season
MAAC games and scored nine points or more in 26 of 28 games overall.
Academically, Grenci was also
recognized by the MAAC as a member of the conference's All-Academic Team.
Grenci currently boasts a 3.83 GPA while majoring in Sociology.
