MAAC Announces 2012 Water Polo All-MAAC Team

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Wagner College's Chelsea Beck has been named the 2012 MAAC Water Polo Offensive Player of the Year, while Wagner's Laura Karbach, Marist College's Rebecca Thomas, Siena College's Katie Ness earned Co-Defensive Players of the Year honors to headline the 2012 Water Polo All-MAAC Teams, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Additionally, Marist freshman Alison Hamby earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Brian Kelly, head coach of the Gaels, was selected as the 2012 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year.
Beck, a senior center back from Reading, Pa., was tied for first place in the MAAC for goals scored this season, netting 81 for the Seahawks. She guided Wagner to an overall record of 19-17 and a 9-3 mark in the MAAC en route to earning the third seed in this year's championship.
Karbach, a junior goalkeeper from Abington, Pa., ranked second in saves per game, averaging 8.94 stops per contest and 322 overall. She was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week three times this year.
Thomas, a sophomore goalkeeper from Cape Town, South Africa, led the MAAC with an average 10.13 saves per game to help the Red Foxes earn a second seed in the MAAC Water Polo Championship. Thomas also earned five Defensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Ness, a senior attacker from Reading, Pa., scored 47 goals this season for average of 1.57 per game. She also had a team-high 78 steals and 36 field blocks for the Saints.
Hamby, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., netted 41 goals and assisted on 27 more for the Red Foxes this season. She led Marist in ejections with 34 and also recorded 29 steals.
Kelly, in his 17th season as the head coach the Gaels program, led his squad to an overall record of 22-11, including an 11-1 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the top seed in the 2012 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championship.
Earning First Team All-MAAC selections are Iona's Amy Olsen and Cecilia Leonard, Wagner's Beck, Karbach and Lauren French, Marist's Kelly Kline, St. Francis (N.Y.) College's Regina Toth, Siena's Katie Ness, and Villanova University's Hannah Ishida.
