Fairfield Wins 2012 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship

West Windsor, N.J. - Fairfield won its ninth league title in program history, defeating Marist 4-1 in the 2012 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
The Red Foxes had an early 1-0 lead after winning two out of the three doubles matches. In first doubles and third doubles, the tandems of Kelsey Raynor and Erin McCarthy, and Joana Sun and Marielle Campbell picked up 8-4 victories.
But, Fairfield turned the tables on Marist in the singles matches, receiving wins from Monica Yajima at first singles (6-1, 6-2), Sharissa Ryan at second singles (7-5, 6-2), Victoria Pirrello at fifth
singles (6-3, 6-1), and Nikki Jackson at sixth singles (6-3, 6-4). The Stags have now won three of the last four MAAC Women's Tennis Championships.
Ryan was named the 2012 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Performer.
Fairfield will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
