Mulieri, Newman, and Tilley Named MAAC Golfers of the Month

Edison, NJ - Loyola University Maryland's Jay Mulieri and Iona College's Dylan Newman were chosen as the MAAC Men's Co-Golfers of the Month for March, while Siena College's Cortney Tilley was named the MAAC Women's Golfer of the Month.

Mulieri, a senior from Silver Spring, Md., won the Fireline Towson Invitational and finished at under par through three of the four tournaments he competed in, en route to two top-four individual finishes this spring. The Silver Spring, Md., native won his first tournament of the year last weekend, carding a 7-under 209 at the Towson Invitational (March 30-April 1) after shooting an even 72, a spring-best 4-under 68 and a 3-under 69 through the three rounds, respectively.

He also finished tied for fourth overall at the Snowman Getaway (Feb. 27-28) with a 1-under 215 and matched that score at the UCF Rio Pinar Invite (March 19-20) to finished tied for 17th overall. At the Snowman Getaway, Mulieri shot an even 72 in the first round before improving his score to a 2-under 70. He finished the final round at 2-over 74.

At the UCF Rio Pinar, Mulieri carded a 1-over 73 in the first round before shaving three strokes off his score for a 2-under 70 in the second round. He finished the third round at an even 72 to help the Greyhounds to an eighth-place finish of 15 at the invitational.

In a rainy and windy C&F Bank Intercollegiate (March 25-27), Mulieri shot an even 71 through the first round before finishing the second and third rounds at 78 and 76, respectively.

So far this spring, Mulieri leads the team with a 72.00 stroke average and has shot par or under through eight of the 12 rounds he has played. For the season, his scoring average is 71.62 with 16 of 27 rounds being at or under par.

Newman, a junior from New Rochelle, N.Y., opened up the spring season with a second place tie at the La Salle Invitational. In difficult conditions, Newman finished with a 12-over 154. He began play with a first round score of 74 (+3) and finished with a second round 80 (+9).

Tilley, a junior from Plaistow, N.H., started the 2012 spring season by tying for fifth at the Homewood Suites Siena Invitational in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The junior shot rounds of 81 and 76, and her second round total was the fourth best of the day. Tilley also tied for 41st at the Richmond Spider Invitational, shooting rounds of 80, 79, and 86.

The 2012 Men's and Women's Golf Championships will be held April 27_29 at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
