Papazov, Cocco Earn Track & Field Weekly Honors
MAAC Sports
Edison, NJ - Manhattan College's
Anastas Papazov was named the MAAC Men's Track & Field Performer of the
Week, while Loyola University Maryland's Gabrielle Cocco earned the award on
the women's side.
Papazov,
a freshman from Balchik, Bulgaria, won the men's hammer throw Championship of
America at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Papazov's winning effort of 63.47
meters (208 feet, two inches) was the same as York's Daniel Nova, but he was
awarded the victory by virtue of a better second throw. With the victory,
Papazov became the Jaspers' first Penn Relays champion since Milan Jotanovic in
the men's shot put in 2009. He's also the first freshman in program history to
win an individual event at the Penn Relays.
Cocco,
a sophomore from Allentown, Pa, broke a seven-year old school record in the
3,000 at the Penn Relays on Thursday night. The sophomore ran an
ECAC-qualifying time of 9:49.03, finishing 14th overall and breaking
the previous record by just over three seconds.
The 2012
MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Saturday, May 5
and Sunday, May 6 on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
