Iona Claims 3-0 Victory over Marist in Game Two

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Top-seeded Iona College earned a 3-0 victory over fourth-seeded Marist College in game two of the 2012 MAAC Softball Championship, held at Marist's Softball Park at Gartland Field.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, after Deanne Algeo singled through the left side to bring in Eileen McCann and Alyssa Maiese scored on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0 in favor of the Gaels.

The Maroon and Gold added their final tally in the fifth inning as Jodi Petersen singled through the right side to allow Brianna Schauer to cross home plate.

Iona starting pitcher Sarah Jackson improved to 16-11 with the win, striking out three batters in four innings of work. Maiese was credited with the save, going three innings in the circle. Marist's Emily Osterhaus dropped her record to 11-9 on the season.

Iona will face second-seeded Fairfield University in game three on Friday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Following that contest will be game four featuring Marist and third-seeded Canisius College in an elimination game at approximately 1 p.m. The winner of game four and the loser of game three will compete in another elimination game - game five - starting at 3 p.m.
