MAAC Honors Four for Baseball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week

Jack Giannini, Fairfield University

Jr., LF, 6-0, 185, Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep

Giannini hit .417 (5-for-12) and slugged .667 with seven RBI and two runs scored to help power Fairfield to a three-game sweep of Siena. He was also strong defensively, recording eight putouts and recording a crucial outfield assist. In the opening game against the Saints, Giannini drove in a run, but more importantly, gunned down the potential tying run at the plate with a perfect throw from left field; the Stags went on to win 7-4. In game two of the doubleheader, Giannini scored the Stags' first run of the contest and later drove in the game-winning runs with a two-RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh. In the final game of the series, Giannini blasted his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot in the third inning.

Co-Pitchers of the Week

John Soldinger, Manhattan College

Jr., RHP, 6-3, 230, Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore

Soldinger pitched another gem on Saturday as he threw a complete game five-hitter to outduel Saint Peter's starter for a 1-0 victory at Van Cortlandt Park. Soldinger struck out 6 Peacocks and did not walk or hit a batter to win his fourth straight start, all coming against MAAC opponents. It was Soldinger's sixth complete game effort of the season and he lowered his ERA against MAAC opponents to a mere 2.70.

Brett Houseal, Marist College

Jr., RHP, 6-3, 220, Landisville, PA/Hempfield

Houseal tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout as Marist defeated Canisius, 9-0, in a seven-inning game on May 12. Houseal allowed just two walks and struck out six, as he needed just 81 pitches to complete his outing. He threw 51 pitches for strikeouts, and recorded 12 groundouts. He also recorded three 1-2-3 innings, did not allow a Canisius runner to reach second base, and faced just two batters over the minimum.

Rookie of the Week

Joe McClennan, Manhattan College

Fr., IF, 6-2, 195, Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall

McClennan hit .444 and posted a .545 on-base percentage in three starts in the series sweep of Saint Peter's on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park. McClennan was perfect defensively at third base as he posted a 1.000 fielding percentage over the series. McClennan scored two runs, drew two walks and posted his 4th double of the season during the three game set. McClennan was a key part to the Jaspers come from behind victory on Sunday to stay undefeated at Van Cortlandt Park as he hit 2-for-3, walked twice and scored two runs to help Manhattan overcome a three run deficit.
