MAAC Announces 2012 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Awards

Siena's Bryan Neufeld has been selected as the MAAC Men's Lacrosse League
Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while teammate Tom
Morr earned Defensive Player of the Year honors to headline the 2012 All-MAAC
Teams, as voted by the league's head coaches.
Additionally, VMI's Stephen
Robarge was voted Face-Off Specialist of the Year for the second year in a row,
Detroit's Jordan Houtby earned Long Stick Midfielder of the Year also for the
second year in a row, and Tim Edwards from Canisius was named Rookie of the
Year. Siena's John Svec was chosen as the Anaconda Sports Coach of the Year.
Neufeld, asenior from
Virgil, Ontario, led the conference in both goals scored and assists with 37
each for a total of 74 points in the regular season. He broke the MAAC Lacrosse
League's record for total career points earlier this season while play the
University of Albany. Neufeld was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week four
times this season.
Morr, a red-shirt senior goakeeper
from Rockville Centre, N.Y., led the Siena defense with 163 saves and an
overall save percent of .556. While in
the net, Morr went 10-4 and is currently a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class
Award.
Robarge, a senior from
Lorton, Va., was named the Face-Off Specialist of the Year after winning .667 (209-314)
of his face-offs on the season and went 669-1065 in his career. He also led the
league with ground balls per game picking up a total of 127 on the season and
netting 6 goals for the Keydets. Robarge was selected at the 44th
pick in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Denver Outlaws.
Houtby, a junior from St.
Catharines, Ontario, earned the league's Long Stick Midfielder of the Year
award for the second year in a row. He picked up a total of 64 ground balls
this season for the Titans. Houtby was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on
March 12.
Edwards, a freshman from Jamesville,
N.Y, netted 11 goals and assisted on 17 more for the Golden Griffins for a total of 28
points on the season. Edwards was named Rookie of the Week on March 12.
Svec, currently in his
first season at Siena, led the Saints to an overall record of 10-4 and an
undefeated 6-0 record in the MAAC. The Saints won the regular season champions
title and earned a number one seed in the championship.
First Team All-MAAC
selections include Neufeld and fellow teammate Danny Martinsen from Siena and Canisius'
Simon Giourmetakis at attack. Jacksonville's Cameron Mann, Siena's Chris Roth
and VMI's Keith Long are the midfielders. The defense features Canisius' Ryan O'Hagan,
Jacksonville's Jake Ziegler, Marist's Zach Badalucco and Siena's Brendan
Meehan. Siena's Morr is the goalkeeper.
