Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The third seeded Canisius Golden Griffins defeated the second seeded University of Detroit Mercy Titans 12-10 in the first semifinal game of the 2012 Men's Lacrosse Championship at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins trailed 5-2 going into the second half and rallied behind the offense of senior Jimmy Haney who scored four of the Canisius goals all in the second half.  Adding to the Canisius offense were senior Simon Giourmetakis with three goals and 2012 Rookie of the Year winner Tim Edwards with one goal. Also adding goals were Nick Caldiero, Kevin Collins, Brandon Bortignon and Travis Gibbons.

The Titan's defense was led by goalkeeper A.J. Levell who recorded 14 saves and most surprisingly, scored a goal with one second left in the game but it was not enough to win the game.

Canisius will play the winner of the semifinal of the top seeded Siena Saints and the fourth seeded Marist Red Foxes.
