Offensive Player of the Week

Gavin Falconer, Canisius College
Sr., F, 5-11, 185, Waterford, Ireland

Falconer once again led the Canisius attack to a perfect week, recording six points, two goals and two assists in victories over Western Michigan and Detroit. The senior recorded an assist on the only goal of the game against the Broncos - who was receiving votes in the national poll, helping the Griffs to the 1-0 win. On Sunday, Falconer recorded a career-best five points, nettting two goals to go along with an assist in a 4-2 victory over Detroit. His five points are the most by a Griff since 2009 as he helped Canisius to the best start in the program's history in addition to the longest unbeaten streak in the team's record book. This is the second straight Offensive Player of the Week award for Falconer.

Defensive Player of the Week

Brett Petricek, Niagara University
Sr., GK, 6-1, Woodridge, Ill./Mercer University

Petricek had a solid showing in goal for the Niagara men's soccer team, earning two shutouts in the Smith Barney Classic as the Purple Eagles earned two hard-fought double overtime draws. In the scoreless game against New Hampshire on Friday, Petricek made a season-high eight saves, while stopping all five Vermont shots on Sunday in the 0-0 tie. The Woodbridge, Ill. native saw 220 minutes of action, averaging a 1.00 save percentage, earning him a spot on the all-tournament team.

Rookie of the Week

George Newton, Fairfield University
Fr., D, 6-0, 195, Cheshire, England/Weaverham

Newton scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory against Yale University on Sunday, his first collegiate points. An impressive offensive play from the defender, Newton received the ball 35 yards from goal, dribbled to just outside the penalty area and tucked a shot inside the near post to the goalkeeper's left side in the 72nd minute. He also played well defensively, helping Fairfield post its second shutout in three outings.
