Thurman Van Riper - Loyola University Maryland
Jr., GK, 6-4, 195, Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable
Van Riper was named the MAAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week following Loyola's season opener double-overtime 0-0 draw at Saint Francis (Pa.). Van Riper played all 110 minutes and stopped three Red Flash shots to record his first career shutout against a program that has run its record to 13-1-2 in its last 16 home contests. This past weekend, Van Riper led the Greyhounds to overtime against La Salle, stopping four shots in regulation. Loyola was called for a foul in the box in the 98th minute though and the Explorers converted the penalty kick for the 1-0 victory. Against Cal State Northridge, Van Riper stopped two shots to pick up his first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over a program receiving votes in the most recent national poll. For the season, Van Riper has played all 297 minutes and 30 seconds, has stopped eight shots - an .800 save percentage - while allowing just two goals for an 0.61 goals-against average.
Laura Reinhart - Saint Peter's University
Jr., OH, 5-10, Belvidere, N.J./Newton
Junior outside hitter Laura Reinhart led the Peacocks to their first victory since the 2010 season at the Western Carolina Tournament just over a week ago. Saint Peter's defeated North Carolina A&T 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16). For the match, Reinhart tied for the match-high in kills (14) and added 11 digs for her third career double-double. She also registered 4 service aces. Reinhart was named to the All-Tournament team for both the Western Carolina Tournament, and the Lafayette College Tournament that took place this past weekend. The dual major in Business Management and History boasts a 3.98 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List, MAAC All-Academic Team and Saint Peter's Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll on multiple occasions.
