Clements Named 2013 MAAC Men's Cross Country Most Outstanding Runner

Bronx, N.Y. - The Iona College Gael’s men’s cross country teams claimed the 2013 MAAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday. Iona’s Kieran Clements was the men's individual champion.
The Iona men, currently ranked eighth in the nation and second regionally, took 7 of the first 11 places to win the meet with 15 points. It is the program's 23rd consecutive MAAC Championship. Canisius finished second with 73 points. Rider was third with 109 points. Fairfield placed fourth with 119 points. Monmouth placed fifth with 133 points. Marist earned sixth place with 151 points. Quinnipiac placed seventh with 177 points. Siena earned eighth place with 198 points. Manhattan placed ninth with 221 points. Niagara finished tenth with 301 points. Saint Peter’s placed eleventh with 365 points.
Kieran Clements, a sophomore from Hadleigh, England, won the men's 8k race with a time of 25:27.94. Iona teammates Daniel Clorley (25:28.28) and Matt Gillespie (24:28.44) finished second and third, respectively. Jake Byrne of Iona finished fourth (25:28.71) and Mike O’Dowd (25:36.85), also from Iona finished fifth. Andrew Kowalsky (25:37.63), Anthony Dentino (25:39.57), Khari Bowen (25:50.54), Cooper Roach (26:03.77), and Brendan Copley (26:15.73) rounded out the top ten, respectively.
Canisius College head coach Nate Huckle was named the 2013 MAAC Men's and Coach of the Year.
