Player of the Week
Mackenzie Stephens, Marist, Jr., Middle Blocker, 6-2, Holland, Mich./West Ottawa
Junior Mackenzie Stephens posted 26 kills to become fifth all-time for Marist in single match kills in the win over Rider on Sunday. In the Red Foxes’ victory over Saint Peter’s on Saturday, Stephens led the team in kills with 13 and also had five blocking assists. She posted a .571 attack percentage, while posting 15.5 points in the match. For the weekend, Stephens went 39-4-67 for a .536 attack percentage, while also claiming 41 points between both matches.
Libero of the Week
Brooke Zywick, Marist, Jr., Libero, 5-4, Garden City, Mich./John Glenn
At the start of the first set, in the Red Foxes’ win over Rider, junior Brooke Zywick broke the Marist record for the most digs in a single season. Zywick entered the match tied with 480, set by Emily Brosky in 2009. In the fourth match, Zywick posted her 20th dig for the day, to claim her 500th season dig. With 31 for the match, she now has 511 digs this season. Zywick also had a team high 15 digs in Marist’s sweep over Saint Peter’s on Saturday.
Rookie of the Week
Haley Howell, Siena, Fr., Setter, 5-10, Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic
Howell averaged 12.3 assists per set in two Siena wins to close the year. The freshman setter led the MAAC in assists per set in conference matches this season and ranked fourth in aces per set. She had 50 assists in Siena’s four-set win over Rider, marking her fourth 50+ assist effort of the season. Howell orchestrated a balanced attack, as four different Saints finished in double figure kills against the Broncs. She closed the season with 36 assists and three aces in the sweep of Saint Peter’s. Howell served long runs in both matches, helping the Saints close the year with four straight wins to tie for third in the conference.
