Lawrenceville, N.J. – Second-seed Quinnipiac University defeated third-seed Bryant University, 5-0, in the first semifinal of the 2013 Inaugural MAAC Field Hockey Championship, held at Ben Cohen Field on the campus of Rider University.
The victory snapped a 10-year postseason winless streak for Quinnipiac, which extended back to the 2003 Championship, when the Bobcats defeated Rider in the final.
Quinnipiac controlled possession through much of the match, and outshot the Bulldogs 27-18. Danielle Allan, All-MAAC Second Team honoree, scored a pair for the Bobcats while Offensive Player of the Year Jess Rusin, All-MAAC First Team Jennalise Taylor and junior defender Megan Osantisch each added one goal for the Navy and Gold.
Bryant goalkeeper Megan Hancock made fifteen saves, while Quinnipiac goalkeeper Megan Conaboy had nine saves. Both players were named Co-Goalkeepers of the Year at last night’s awards banquet.
The Bobcats, now 13-6, advance to the title game against the winner of the second semifinal between top-seed Rider and fourth-seed Robert Morris, set for 6pm this evening. The championship game will be broadcast live on MAAC.TV on Saturday, November 9 at 3pm.
Bryant concluded its season at 11-7.
