Quinnipiac Wins Inaugural MAAC Field Hockey Championship

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Senior defender Amanda Danziger was named the Most Valuable Player as she helped guide the second-seeded Quinnipiac University Bobcats to a 1-0 victory over the fourth-seeded Robert Morris University Colonials in the 2013 Inaugural Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship, held at Ben Cohen Field on the campus of Rider University.

Danziger scored the lone goal of the game as she tallied on a penalty stroke in the 13th minute into the first half. The Quinnipiac defense was led by All-Championship Team Megan Conaboy who made four saves against the Colonials. The Bobcats did not allow a goal during the tournament and recorded their 5th shutout of the season in the title game.

The victory gives Quinnipiac its 14th win of the season also a program record. In addition to MVP Danziger and Conaboy, Danielle Allan and Christa Romano were named to the All-Championship team.

Robert Morris, who advanced to the title game of the MAAC Field Hockey Championship for the first time, saw their season come to a close with an 11-8 mark. The Colonials placed Julianne Alspaugh, Jamie Hartley and Sophie Watt on the All-Championship team.

With the victory, Quinnipiac claims the MAAC’s automatic bid the 2013 NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The Bobcats will learn where they will be headed in the NCAA tournament when the field is unveiled on the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Selection Show on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 10:00 p.m. The Selection Show can be viewed at NCAA.com.
