MAAC Pitcher Player of the Week

KYLE OLVER, NIAGARA

Fr., RHP, 6-6, 175, Vancouver, B.C./Prince of Whales Secondary School

The towering righty started the first game of his collegiate career on Friday against Tennessee Tech and made it one to remember, pitching nine innings, giving up only two runs and striking out six on the way to a 4-2 win. Olver retired the first four batters he faced, with that fifth batter getting the only hit freshman surrendered in the first five innings.  The fourth inning was an unconventional one-two-three inning as he struck out the first two batters before hitting the third batter up, only to pick him off at first to end the inning.  The fifth was more conventional, with a strikeout and two groundouts. His dominance continued late in the game as he gave up one hit in the eighth before retiring the side in the ninth with a strikeout looking, a groundout, and a swinging strikeout.  Olver's final line for the afternoon was two runs on four hits, with three walks and six strikeouts over an even nine innings to get the win.
