Two Men's Basketball Games on ESPN Platforms Friday

Edison, N.J. - Two MAAC men's basketball games will air on ESPN platforms on Friday, March 1.

The first contest, featuring Loyola University Maryland at Iona College, will take place at 7:00 p.m. and air live on ESPN2.

Loyola, 20-9 overall and 11-5 in the MAAC, is led by junior guard Dylon Cormier, who is registering 17.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and graduate student forward Erik Etherly, who is averaging 15.4 points and 6.2 caroms a night for the Greyhounds. Iona, 15-13 overall and 9-7 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Lamont Jones, who is contributing a league-high 23.0 points (ranking second in the nation), and junior guard Sean Armand, who is posting 17.4 points and 5.4 rebounds an outing for the Gaels.

On Jan. 27, Jones led the way with 23 points and David Laury pitched in a double-double as Iona topped Loyola, 79-71. Laury scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double, and fourth straight game with double-digit rebounds. The win was Iona's 300th in MAAC play, the most of any current conference member. Cormier led the Greyhounds with 18 points. R.J. Williams recorded seven of the team's 18 assists.

The second game, with Fairfield University at Manhattan College, will start at 9:00 p.m., can be seen live on ESPNU.

Fairfield, 17-12 overall and 9-7 in the MAAC, is led by senior guard Derek Needham, who is averaging 14.9 points and 3.3 assists per game, as well as junior forward Maurice Barrow, who is contributing 9.1 points and 4.0 rebounds an outing for the Stags. Manhattan, 11-16 overall and 8-8 in the MAAC, is led by junior forward/center Rhamel Brown, who is averaging 11.8 points and 7.1 rebounds an outing, and junior guard Michael Alvarado, who is netting 8.7 points and grabbing 2.5 rebounds a night for the Jaspers.

On Feb. 12, Donovan Kates scored 17 points and Emmy Andujar came off the bench for 13 to lift Manhattan over Fairfield, 62-40. Kates was 4-of-6 shooting and Andujar hit 6 of 8 for the Jaspers, who shot 52.3 percent (23 of 44). Fairfield's Josip Mikulic scored the game's first five points as the Stags opened up an 8-4 lead just 5 minutes in. But Manhattan scored the next 20 points to take a 26-8 advantage with 4:27 left to play in the first half. Maurice Barrow had nine points for Fairfield.
