Thompson and Gilbert Take Home Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Player of the Week
Jonathon Thompson, Rider, Sr., G, 6-4, 190, Orlando, Fla./Jones

In two wins on the road that helped propel the Broncs to the number two seed in this year's tournament, Thompson averaged 18 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot 12 for 18 from the field (.667), including 5 for 7 from three-point, and was 7 of 12 from the foul line. In the win at first-place Niagara and trailing 44-42, Rider went on a 15-1 run, eight points by Thompson, to take a 57-45 lead with 8:00 left to play in the 68-59 win. He made three of four foul shots in the final minute to preserve the victory and finished with 25 points, one shy of his career high. In the win at Canisius, Thompson scored with 10:19 left to cut the Canisius lead to 50-49 in the 65-61 victory. He finished with 11 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 37 minutes of work.


Rookie of the Week
Marcus Gilbert, Fairfield, Fr., F, 6-6, 185, Smyrna, Del./Academy of New Church

Gilbert was the Stags' top scorers in both games last week, including a 15-point effort against Marist College on Sunday afternoon. Gilbert shot 47 percent from the floor overall and 46 percent from three-point range. He was also the team leader in scoring against Manhattan, netting nine of the team's 31 points. For the week, Gilbert averaged 12.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in his two starts.
