Marist Sweeps Weekly MAAC Men's Lacrosse Awards

MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

Jack Doherty, Marist

Sr., 6-3, Attack, Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland

Doherty tied a career-high with seven points on four goals and three assists Marist’s 14-11 road win over Jacksonville in a battle of the final unbeaten teams in the MAAC. He also grabbed a season-high four ground balls. Doherty scored 1:45 into the third quarter to give the Red Foxes their first lead at 6-5, and they never trailed after that. In fact, all three of Doherty’s third quarter points, two goals and an assist, came with the score tied and gave Marist the lead. He registered six of his seven points in the second half, including having a hand in all three of Marist’s goals in the fourth quarter.

MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

Dave Scarcello, Marist

So., 5-11, Goalie, Buffalo, N.Y./Timon St. Jude

Scarcello made a career-high 13 saves in Marist’s big 14-11 road win over Jacksonville in a battle of the final unbeaten teams in the MAAC. He made at least three saves in each quarter, including four in the first quarter. He never allowed more than three goals in a quarter, holding Jacksonville to just two in the first quarter. Scarcello also collected two ground balls and led a Marist defense that was a near-perfect 20-22 in clears, the Red Foxes’ third straight game with at least 20 clears.

 

MAAC Rookie of the Week

Joseph Radin, Marist

Fr., 6-1, Attack, Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach

Radin scored another two goals in Marist’s big 14-11 win over Jacksonville in a battle of the final unbeaten teams in the MAAC. He took five shots and scooped up three ground balls. Radin scored goals in each of the second and third quarters. His goal in the second period, an unassisted tally, brought the Red Foxes even at four after trailing for most of the first half. His third quarter score was Marist’s sixth of the quarter and provided the Red Foxes with some insurance at 10-8.
