MAAC Sports
MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
Ari Waffle, Jacksonville
So., Attack, 5-9, 160, Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville Manlius
Waffle was the catalyst for the Jacksonville offense in an 11-10 win over Canisius on Saturday scoring three goals and adding three assists. Behind Waffle's performance the Dolphins finished the MAAC regular season at 5-1 while securing the first winning season in the four year school history and a team record seventh victory.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
Dave Scarcello, Marist
So., Goalie, 5-11, Buffalo, N.Y./Timon St. Jude
Scarcello made 10 saves to lead Marist to a 10-9 overtime victory over Siena to earn at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship and the top seed at the MAAC Tournament. The win also snapped Marist’s eight-game losing streak to Siena and gave the Red Foxes their first win over their MAAC rivals since the 2006 season. Scarcello made an incredible kick save off of a point-blank shot with just three seconds left in regulation to preserve the tie and send the game into overtime. He also collected two ground balls on the day and led a defensive unit that was 90% on clear attempts for the fourth consecutive game, and sixth time this year.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Billy Jacobbi, Canisius
Fr., Attack, 5-9, 160, Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South HS
Jacobbi netted five goals in a pair of games to help the Griffs to a 1-1 week. The freshman began the week with a pair of tallies -- his first career multi-goal game -- in a 12-11 win over Binghamton. He then netted his first career hat trick in a MAAC contest against Jacksonville.
