Iona Tops Marist in MAAC Water Polo Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Second-seed Iona College defeated third-seed Marist College, 12-9, in the first semifinal of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Water Polo Championship, held at Marist College’s McCann Natatorium.
First Team All-MAAC performer Alyssa Turza scored four goals for the Gaels, while Amy Olsen, the 2013 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, netted three goals. Second Team All-MAAC performer, Erika Lauraitis scored two goals for the Maroon and Gold.
Second Team All-MAAC performer Shelby Rinker paced the Red Foxes with four goals this afternoon, while sophomore Hannah Levien scored three goals.
Iona will play the winner of the semifinal game between #1 Wagner and #4 Villanova for the championship title at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 28. Marist will face the loser of the second semifinal in the consolation game tomorrow at noon.
