The top-seeded Red Foxes defeat Fairfield 4-2 in the 2013 MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship at Mercer County Park Tennis Complex in West Windsor, N.J.
Fairfield marched out to an early 1-0 lead after winning both second and third doubles matches. The Red Foxes stormed back with Joris Van Eck dominating performance in the fourth singles 6-0, 6-1, Will Reznek picked up a victory in the third singles 6-3, 6-1. The Red Foxes would eventually pickup wins in the sixth and clinched the title with Lorenzo Rossi win in the first singles 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Lorenzo Rossi was named the 2013 MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Performer.
Ironically, it was Rossi who played in the finale match in last year’s championship vs. Fairfield, Rossi went up 1-0 with a 6-4 win in the first set but would go on to lose the next two sets and watch Fairfield snap Marist’s streak in the championship game.
Marist will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the 2013 Men’s Tennis NCAA Championship that begins on May 10th at the University of Illinois Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
