Megan Volz, Siena, So., C, 5-6, Troy, N.Y./Lansingburgh
Volz led the Saints with a .571 batting average (8-for-14) and drove in a team-high seven in Siena’s 3-1 week. Volz recorded a hit and scored a run in all four games. In the series against Manhattan, Volz recorded four hits including a three run home run while driving in five. Volz recorded multi-hit games in three of her contests, including scoring three times in both series. The catcher also stole a base and tallied a .625 on-base-percentage in the week.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Jenn Sansano, Niagara, Jr., P, 6-0, Clarence, N.Y./St. Bonaventure
Sansano was an integral part of Niagara’s historic nine-game winning streak. Through five appearances including four starts, Sansano went 4-1 with a 0.67 ERA, allowing just three earned runs on 19 hits while striking out 48 batters in 31.1 innings. She was one out away from her second complete-game no-hitter in six days against Rider on Saturday before the feat was broken up with an RBI-single. Sansano tormented her opponents all week, holding opposing batters to a .168 batting average. The junior posted a double-digit strikeout performance in all four of her starts, averaging 1.6 strikeouts per inning.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Nicole Cheek, Marist, Fr., INF/OF, 5-7, Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley
Cheek continued her strong production from the heart of the order for the Red Foxes as she expanded her team lead in RBIs with 44 on the season. This week in doubleheaders at Holy Cross, Manhattan and Saint Peter’s, the freshman drove in a total of nine RBIs, while scoring six runs. Versus the Crusaders on Tuesday and Peacocks on Sunday, she connected for home runs to raise her season total to 12. For the week, she hit .429 (9-21) with six runs, nine RBIs, two doubles and two home runs. She slugged .810 over the six games.
